When to merge PDF files
Combining PDFs keeps related documents together so they are easier to send, print and archive. Instead of attaching five separate files to an email, you send one tidy document in the right order. Common examples include:
- Joining a signed contract with its annexes and appendices.
- Combining monthly invoices or bank statements into a single file for your accountant.
- Putting a cover letter, CV and certificates together for a job application.
- Assembling scanned pages, reports and presentations into one document for a meeting.
- Uploading supporting documents to a portal that accepts only one file.
How our PDF merger works
When you add files, the tool reads each PDF in your browser and counts its pages. When you click Merge PDF, it copies every page, in the order you chose, into a brand-new PDF document and saves it to your device. The pages are copied as they are, so fonts, vector graphics, images, links and text selection are all preserved.
Because everything happens locally, merging is fast even for large files: there is no upload or download wait, and your connection speed does not matter once the page has loaded.
Tips for merging PDFs
- Name files with numbers first (for example “01-cover.pdf”, “02-report.pdf”) so they are added in the correct order automatically.
- Unlock protected files first. PDFs that need a password to open cannot be merged until the password is removed by their owner.
- Convert images first. To include photos or scans, turn them into a PDF with our JPG to PDF converter and then merge.
- Check the total size before emailing. Most email services limit attachments to around 20–25 MB.
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs online?
With this tool, yes. Many PDF websites upload your files to their servers to process them, which means a copy of your document exists somewhere you do not control. Our merger is built differently: the processing runs entirely on your own device using JavaScript in your browser. Your contracts, medical records and financial statements are never transmitted, so there is nothing to intercept, store or leak.
